Mars in Capricorn, aspecting Cancer, May 3 to November 6

The May 15 entry Mars In Capricorn was astrology-heavy by reciting several significant and harmful planetary dispositions this summer and fall.

This listing was then generated,

Mars in Capricorn, aspecting Cancer, May 3 to November 6

Mars retrograde June 27 to August 27

Mars crosses Ketu late May/early June, mid to late July, mid to late September

Eclipses July 13 and 27 and August 11

Sun, Venus, Mercury transit Cancer June -- August

Mercury retrograde in Cancer July 26 to August 19

Jupiter and Saturn retrograde until July 10 and September 6

The May 20 entry Mars Harms Persist & Strengthening explained, how Mars, the commander of the army, is the driving force this summer/fall for being exalted in Capricorn and associated with the eclipse points,

While the upcoming eclipses, ongoing weak retrogrades of Saturn and Jupiter..... are of import, the main driver of Mars' viciousness is being entwined with the Moon's Nodes.  These are the eclipse points dragon halves called Rahu and Ketu.  Rahu head-of-the-dragon and Ketu tail-of-the-dragon are difficult to understand for being alien reptilian and bringing the unexpected.

Remaining May entries discussed the initial dissonant event -- Mars first of three transits across Ketu.  As Mars gets in range of a planet 3 degrees or so before the exact conjunction and continues pummeling that planet through the exact conjunction.Mars moved to that 3 degree distance from Ketu May 28, and they will exactly conjoined late June 7.  Although stuff is going on all the time now, the intensity and number of major events has increased -- both natural and man made.

Beyond this, follow the Moon -- a contributory karma.  The May 25 entry stated, Notice in the chart for today the all-important Moon is in Virgo.  On May 31, it will have reached Sagitarius, where Saturn lurks.  And during the next 5 days, the Moon will finish traveling through Sagitarius and then go through Capricorn -- where Mars/Ketu now reside. This suggests the volcano and tropical storm are most likely to create problems from May 31 through June 4.

Today is the 4th, and just look at all the turmoil -- in the natural world and society as well!  Volcanos, fires, accidents, political upheavals... are too much to record, or absorb.

However, the May discussions don't give an overall picture of what to expect this summer/fall.  A missing is a visual -- a timeline -- repeatting that method from the June 28, 2017 entry  Heavy Summer/Fall Transits.  Last year's timeline showed the intensity of planetary disruptions and their overlaps -- both needed to evaluate summer/fall 2008 planetary energies.

Predictions Review For Mars In Capricorn

Celestial Wheel entries during May were focused upon developing an understanding of Mars in Capricorn this summer/fall.   A big thank you, by way to longtime subscriber L.L for the alert. I replied,

...you stated, "...this conjunction lasts 6 months."  You know, I just saw this because of the upcoming Mars retro! Thanks.  This weak Mercury has really slowed me down.  At first blush, seeing Mars will cross Ketu 3 times, in the U.S. 2nd house of income and domestic harmony, and also then aspecting Cancer to cross 8th house Rahu 3 times -- well, as a friend is fond of saying, "It's always Armegeddon somewhere," it looks like the somewhere is the U.S

Entries from May 15 to June 4 delved into the details:

How Mars' retrograde keeps him in Capricorn a long six months

What Mars in Capricorn with the eclipse points Rahu/Ketu portend (vengeful rage and seething anger)

A listing of seven planetary afflictions

That and how this summer/fall mirrors those seasons in 2008 (global economic collapse was the result)

Predictions for Trump

Predictions for the U.S.

How predictions already made for 2018 compared with events in 2008

A time line table of planetary afflictions this summer/fall

This is a lot of information!  And there was some jumble in the presentation order.  Even the author here had to go back a several times to review before and while writing new forecasting.  And Vedic Astrology being alien to the western mind (and Western Astrology too) make this forecasting difficult to follow, even overwhelming.  We certainly don't need to be overwhelmed here with Trump blasting out craziness several times a day -- that reporters acknowledge is one of his techniques to confuse and overload journalists and the public.

So, this entry is just nitty gritting predictions -- Predictions Review For Mars In Capricorn -- like after the car salesman does his song and dance routine, and the customer finally blurts out, How much will this car actually cost?

There's just one technical item to cover again.  Mars in Capricorn simply means Mars is (transiting) going through that sign.  It symbolizes global planetary karmas -- just as the Moon phases (also transits) in the signs are the same everywhere.  When there's a full Moon in London, it's also full in Tokyo.  Some general predictions for the world can be made from this information.  Transits too are excellent timing indicators for events.  However, when we draw a birth chart for a person, nation..... with a location, date and time, the houses (domains of action) are added.  This brings detail.  There are also planetary cycles (Dasas) associated with each birth chart, and those bring further definition to the planetary karmas.  Birth chart analysis of transiting planets through houses and Dasas thereby yields more specific predictions.

And that fits with the goal of astrology to always try to be more specific.

General global transit predictions were made in the May 28 entry Mars With Rahu/Ketu 2008 & 2018,

Events May November 2008

Gas price peak
Volcanoes/earthquakes
Stocks crash
Hurricanes
Real estate price drops

Events & Predictions May-November 2018

Gas price increases (May 15)
Volcanoes/earthquakes (May 15)
Stock markets decline (March 31)
Hurricanes (May 25)
Infectious disease (new prediction)

Specific predictions for the U.S. and Trump were made in the May 25 entry Mars Approaching Ketu in a narrative format.  (This title refers to the first of seven planetary afflictions.)  These are added to the above global generalized predictions.  Here they are presented as individual predictions.

United States

Domestic harmony harmed
Public disgust
Flawed communications
Income reduced
Calamities
Heavy hurricane season
Secrets revealed
Disasters and scandals

Trump

Open enemies
Problems with foreigners
Hidden enemies
Discord in far and distant places
Fights at home and abroad
Adamant and furious
Believes he's the king
Omnipotent in his own eyes
Oversensitive
Prone to irrational impulses and fears

These general global and specific chart predictions will play out (actualize) during this summer and fall.  The below timeline published June 4 (above) is a guide to the transiting influences over time, which as stated above are timing indicators.  The first planetary affliction -- Mars crossing Ketu for the first time of three -- has already happened, during which brought lots of turmoil in the above-predicted areas.

I've posted this timeline on the Celestial Wheel home page, where it will remain for easy reference.

Notice, for example, that Venus transited into Cancer today -- right where she will be attacked by the Rahu eclipse point and Mars.  (This is negative for vehicles generally and specifically for U.S. enemies, groups and debts and for Trump females, close associates and career.)

Thus, we now have a good framework of predictions globally and for the U.S. and Trump this summer/fall.

Then, there's the ongoing task of evaluating how these seven transits bring karma -- influence.

Finally there will be the consequences of these influences as they accumulate during the summer and fall.

Flying Blind

Mars/Ketu got me. {My transit Mars (machinery) is in my fourth house of fixed assets.} June 6 one of the cooling fans on my ancient Macbook Pro 17' bit the dust.  I keep this 2006 machine only for the Vedic Astrology programs and website editor.  It would be impractical to obtain updated versions of these four programs and run them on a new pricey Mac, or even my budget-priced (and legitimately despised) Windows 10 laptop.

And then, after dodging a grifter computer repairman, I found another shop that would easily replace both cooling fans for just $36 plus labor.  Well, I guess another thanks is due to the several subscribers who donated in the May subscription/donation drive, funding this repair.

Phew! I escaped that debacle, though I need to wait a week for the parts to come in.

The result, however, is that I'm flying blind without the Vedic Astrology program.  It's like losing ones reading glasses -- really! Fortunately, though, there is the summer/fall timeline, which gives some information.  Here it is from the (above) June 8 entry Predictions Review For Mars In Capricorn.

Notice toward the bottom left the entry Mars crosses Ketu 6/7.  Well, as I stated above, the fan died June 6.  Truly Mars got me right on schedule.

Also notice in the red italics Venus into Cancer 6/8.  I ride a motor scooter -- no car for a decade now.  Well, at least it's a nice one, and even with higher gas prices, it's just $4 for a weekly fill up and $100 yearly insurance.)  So, you can stop laughing at me now:-)

The June 8 entry stated (emphasis added),

Notice, for example, that Venus transited into Cancer today -- right where she will be attacked by the Rahu eclipse point and Mars.  (This is negative for vehicles generally and specifically for U.S. -- enemies, groups and debts and for Trump -- females, close associates and career.)

I never, ever have accidents, for I ride the scooter like a bicycle, and with the Italian handling and disk brakes front and rear, I can get out of the way and stop on a dime.  So, no, I didn't have any accidents, but 5 vehicles have cut me off since June 8!  And despite my leaning on the horn, none of them stopped!  I had to dodge and brake hard.  Remember when Venus is in Cancer she is conjunct Rahu and aspected by Mars. So, Venus is hit hard starting June 8.

This chart for May 26 shows Mars in Capricorn aspecting Rahu in Cancer and Venus close behind in Gemini.  The above timeline shows Venus transiting into Cancer June 8.  These two visuals help you understand what's going on.

May 26, 2018

Beyond the interesting astrology for this writer, which truly readers have no reason to actually care about, the issue is that this Mars in Capricorn impacts everywhere and everyone.  Plus, if you have planets in either sign (which I don't), you're in for some rough celestial weather.  Or maybe some has already hit you?

However, another really valuable factor here is forewarned is being forearmed.  Or, as I love to insert from time to time my favorite made-up saying, Ignorance is not bliss. It's merely ignorance.  Even without my Vedic Astrology programs to guide me daily, the Celestial Wheel informs -- just using the timeline and understanding where Mars is in Capricorn and Venus, Sun, Mercury headed to Cancer, gives a heads-up for stress and allows one to play karmic dodge ball.  After all, my descriptions of computer woes and driving dangers show that, knowing there was harm in these areas, I experienced stress in these area but no actual harms. You can do that to -- even without having your Vedic chart and not knowing what's going on in it.

That is, if you have challenging experiences, use extra care in that area and certainly don't make things worse by confrontation.  An obvious issue area now, btw, is relationship for Venus is the planet of love. She also is compassion, wealth, enjoyments, females and kidneys and skin beauty.

The June 8 entry did not offer time-sensitive forecasting, just predictions for this summer/fall for the globe, the U.S. and Trump.   (You can see, though, some of these already bearing their frightful fruit.  Read or watch just today's news for confirmation!)

The May 24 entry Mars Approaching Ketu, however, did an early analysis of Mars/Ketu on the U.S. and Trump.  The latter is kind of amazing (emphasis added.)

By overlaying today's chart onto Trump's you can easily see Mars/Ketu is in his sixth house of open enemies and foreigners.  And Mars aspects Rahu in his twelfth house of hidden enemies and far and distant places.  While this explains why Trump is wrapped up in fights at home and abroad, it doesn't show why he's been so adamant and furious.  Mars in the sixth house is strong for fighting enemies.  Mercury in the ninth is great for communications.   The Sun in the tenth is potent for career and the public.  Venus is the eleventh brings luck-filled opportunities.  These temporary influences have made Trump believe he's the king.

Plus, Trump's Dasas, (the planetary cycles which are the underlying karma in Vedic Astrology) have been strong with his powerful Sun (kingship) active as the third level steering current Dasa planet April 11 to May 20.  Adding this kingship to the above described transits, Trump has been omnipotent in his own eyes.  However, Trump's crazy fallen Moon (afflicted by Ketu and an aspect from Mars) is obviously a bad for him.  Coming into the Dasa lineup May 20, the Moon takes the wind out of his sails.  It also makes him oversensitive (like Mars/Ketu also does) and prone to irrational impulse and fears.  He dreamed up Spygate, which fell on its face.  He bolted from the North Korean summit, but then backed down to invite the meeting again.

Today's Washington Post published this article, which I'm sure is lost in the blizzard to truly bizarre Friday news, ‘Why can’t we just do it?’: Trump nearly upended summit with abrupt changes,

After arriving in Singapore on Sunday, an antsy and bored Trump urged his aides to demand that the meeting with Kim be pushed up by a day — to Monday — and had to be talked out of altering the long-planned and carefully negotiated summit date on the fly, according to two people familiar with preparations for the event.

“We’re here now,” the president said, according to the people. “Why can’t we just do it?”

Trump’s impatience, coupled with a tense staff-level meeting between the two sides on Sunday, left some aides fearful that the entire summit might be in peril.

Ultimately, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders persuaded Trump to stick with the original plan, arguing that the president and his team could use the time to prepare, people familiar with the talks said.  They also warned him that he might sacrifice wall-to-wall television coverage of his summit if he abruptly moved the long-planned date to Monday in Singapore, which would be Sunday night in the United States.

Yes, it's provocative that Trump gave in because ...he might sacrifice wall-to-wall television coverage of his summit.  Running a presidency based on TV ratings is by itself astonishing -- or at least used to be so.

But, the important point is that he's running his crazy Moon, as stated above, and this article explains just how loony the leader of the free world -- aka fearless leader -- is.

So expect Trump to be crazier than ever, rocking the U.S. ship of state dangerously.

And guess what steering current planet replaces the May 20 to July 24 crazy Moon is?

Mars - fighting.  Then he's going to rev up his fighting machine to a level, as Trump would say, The like of which the world has never seen before.

This is a good summer to stay close to home and be conservative in all ways.

As soon as my Mac comes back from the shop, I'll jump right into event timing using the above timeline.

It's been refined a few times and placed on the home page for easy reference.  Notice the added color coding.  This shows you how the energies are building up and also gives alerts to upcoming planetary afflictions.

Mars crossed Ketu June 7 and Venus has been in Cancer for 2 1/2 weeks ago.  These influences have certainly caused Trump harms, as predicted June 8 ...Trump females, close associates and career.

Next up is Mercury into Cancer June 25 -- in blue/bold. That's tomorrow.  (And in just two more days following, Mars will turn retrograde -- which gives a violent jolt.)

Rather than go through the planetary karmas for that, we can revisit the August 7, 2008 entry U.S. Psychology.  Here are the essential passages, which explain, among other things, the current anti immigrant fear that Trump is trying to capitalize upon.  It's worth a read.

The U.S. Chart's Optimism, Wisdom, Wealth & Paranoia

For many charts, and always for particularly powerful and accomplished individuals and nations, there are definitive planetary dispositions and combinations symbolizing karmas of great potency.  The U.S. chart is one of these.

Optimism ensues from a great, warm, devoted Jupiter ruling the Ascendant (self) and placed in the seventh house of the other -- partnerships -- and thereby the relationship of individuals to the nation.  From the seventh, Jupiter aspects the first, which binds the nation together so firmly that even the greatest divisions -- like the Civil War -- do not break the Republic.

These Jupiterian influences also describe the Constitution, which respects individual and group rights.

Wisdom also comes from Jupiter, the planet of the higher mind, philosophy and religion.  This signification is cemented by being conjunct the Sun (ruling the ninth house of higher knowledge).

United States

July 4 1776  6:17 PM

Philadelphia, PA

Wealth results from Jupiter being wealth, ruling the good first house and the fourth house of property and other fixed assets.  This rich Jupiter conjunct a wealthy Sun (ruling the ninth house of wealth) and wealthy Mars (ruling the fifth house of investments) signifies tremendous wealth of many kinds.  (Note: This Mars brings economic loss during its planetary cycle, but during the cycles of the other planets, its wealth signification flourishes.)

Combining this optimism, wisdom and wealth, Turning lemons into lemonade is the essence of America -- as long as we can beat back the paranoia -- next discussed.

Paranoia comes from eclipse point Rahu conjunct Mercury in the terrible eighth house of secrets and catastrophes.  That mental Mercury rules the seventh house of relationships and the social nature and the tenth house of the public, makes this a truly societal-wide issue.  Further, as Rahu is the head-of-the dragon eclipse point of a foreign nature, there is a deep distrust, even fear, of other cultures.  (Still, there's also a potent curiosity about foreign things and people.)  Powerful Rahu's influence on mutable Mercury makes Americans anxious and feel under attack, especially when under pressure.  As this does occur from time to time validates the belief, even as it is exaggerated.  Finally, the eighth is the house of mysticism, explaining why America always has religious cults of many kinds, and these often prey on American's fears and distrust of other peoples' and beliefs.

As the eighth house is also sexual power and forbidden activities, these cults typically bring those influences in -- and the most conservative political and religious leaders are thereby often caught with their pants down.  Note that cult here is intended to describe all the fringe groups: the evangelical extremists awaiting Armageddon, other doomsday cults, the fascists and other white supremacists, the survivalists, the conspiracy theorists, the fundamentalist Mormons, the Masons, the paranoid NRA, the neoconservatives, the false Indian prophets, and even the hippies, who for a time were protected by the lawless Hells Angels.  What brought these opposing hippies and motorcyle gang together was their shared fear and distrust of authority.  (The Appalachian Christian snake cult is the best.  It dovetails so well with Rahu.)

FDR said it best in his first inaugural address in 1932, when the nation was mired in the Great Depression, The Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself

To give a broad estimate of the how widespread America's paranoia is, consider that Mercury and Rahu are two out of the nine Vedic planets, and they are placed in the terrible (because it's terrifying) eighth house.  There are no other evil house placement in the U.S. chart.  2/9 computes to 22%, or a little over one fifth of the population, which not coincidentally is the neoconservative base which still believes in Cheney, Bush and the faked global war on terror.

This mix of optimism, wisdom, wealth and paranoia is spicy, and as the planetary karmas ebb and flow, these qualities mix into distinctly different recipes.  America's is truly the most abundant and crazily diverse, yet firmly bonded, psychology.

Yet, the above discussion is about fated influences, and we do have free will.  In fact, some of these fated influences support free will expression -- as in the example of lawful Jupiter relating to the Constitution.  Understanding the mix of fate and free will is the most challenging task, and perhaps it is best addressed by this somewhat intriguing but typically enigmatic Eastern saying, Fate and free will are two blades of a scissor, and we still do not know which blade operates in cutting the paper.

Mercury Into Cancer & Mars Retrograde

Below is the transit chart -- current planetary positions for today. At the bottom of the entry is the summer/fall timeline.

As you can see from the title of this entry, Mercury is now in Cancer, and Mars turned retrograde today.

Transits June 27, 2018

This chart is a potent visual for Mars' now afflicting Ketu in Capricorn and (by aspect) three planets in Cancer -- Mercury, Rahu and Venus.  Plus, Ketu afflicts Mars and Rahu afflicts Venus and Mercury.   What a mess.

There is so much going on, its impossible to match up events and trends to Celestial Wheel predictions -- much less get an overview of how the summer and fall will progress.  However, we can gain a flavor of how planets, and thereby the world and country, suffer in Cancer by recalling the (above) June 8 entry Predictions Review For Mars In Capricorn about Venus in Cancer, Venus transited into Cancer today -- right where she will be attacked by the Rahu eclipse point and Mars.  (This is negative for vehicles generally and specifically for U.S. enemies, groups and debts and for Trump females, close associates and career.)  Harley-Davidson announced it was moving manufacturing to Europe because the EU responded to Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs with higher tariffs on motorcycles.  Trump pounced on this with three nasty tweets -- presented here in chronological order.  Essentially King Trump is insisting Harley just absorb the $100 million in tariffs for its EU exports, or he'll shut them down. How crazy is that?

I go to the Venice Jetty daily to watch the boats and talk to the natives -- pretty much all retired folks from the Midwest who stick with Trump.  When I asked to Harley riders what they thought of this, they said that Trump was just doing it as a negotiating tactic -- bowing to their hero.  I asked if they would chip in the cover the $100 million loss Harley was taking because it couldn't pass the $2200 extra cost onto European customers -- they either sneered or just rode away.

Another prediction was the first one made about this summer/fall -- in the May 15 entry Mars In Capricorn,

As Ketu is the past, it symbolizes gas and oil.) Ketu doesn't do well in Saturn-ruled Capricorn, and Mars transiting there harms this eclipse point further.  So gas prices have been moving up and will likely continue to do so all summer.  See the June 2008 Celestial Wheel page showing Mars and Ketu in Cancer during the eclipse season when gas hit $4.11)

Two things are important here.  First, as you can see, this entry alerted to comparing 2018 and 2008, when Rahu/Ketu have both been in the Capricorn/Cancer axis.  Second, aren't gas prices easing off already, which would cast doubt on predicting a repetition of history?

By including the crude oil price on this gas price chart we can see a major crude run up the past few weeks from $66 per barrel to almost $73 -- 10%.  It sure looks like gas price peaking isn't over.  (Not to worry, though, for your Harley buddies will gladly chip in when you're filling up the tank and the cost tops $40 or so.:-)

As for Mercury now in Cancer, look the the summer/fall timeline to see that its upcoming retrograde will keep Mercury Cancer -- where its hammered by Mars and Rahu until September 2 -- a long time!  I've already seen Mercury's communications signification harmed a few times.  First, I had to go to three business centers -- UPS, Office Depot and another UPS -- to find a FAX service that worked.  The first two were down.  And this morning, my bank ATM is out of order.

Thus, we have over two months of afflicted communications ahead.  Plus, and this is crucial, this summer's Mercury further stimulates America's anti immigration fears.  Here's why.  Cancer is the eighth house of catastrophe for the U.S. chart.  With birth chart Mercury conjunct Rahu (foreigners), the U.S. suffers from not just paranoid fear of foreigners (being attacked), but a mystical paranoia of foreigners.  This elicits from the powerful religious cults that have always dotted the American mindscape by preying on people's fears and predicting end times.  A friend is fond of saying It's always Armageddon somewhere.  That is why the June 24 entry included a section from the August 7, 2008 entry U.S. Psychology.

So Trump is right to make immigration the keystone for the November midterms.  The issue, of course, is will it backfire?  Well, his cruelty toward immigrant children already has.  Not only did he rescind his order that separated children from families, but today the judicial system ordered Trump to reunite the families, Federal judge orders reunification of migrant families.

In closing the summer/fall timeline shows the major afflictions for June have already come, though sometimes just begun.  And July and August will heighten the harms with each month doubling the activity this month.  Don't panic.  Hold your hat, and an umbrella too.  Rahu Dasa in the U.S. chart is really roaring now -- the destroyer of now and creator of tomorrow.  And that tomorrow is the Second Progressive Age.

Whoops! Forgot to comment on Mars turning retrograde.  This provides a jolt, but the more substantial karma is that it brings to three planets in retrograde -- Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.  This further destabilizes the zodiac.  Events tend to becoming exaggerated and swing out of control.

Post script  Again, there's so much going on its literally impossible to relate individual events to predictions.  Yet it seems that Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announcing his retirement June 27 fits with the Mars' jolt of turning retrograde.

More On The Second Progressive Age

The second to last paragraph of the (above) June 27 entry Mercury Into Cancer & Mars Retrograde offered reassurance about the future,

Today's entry addresses what this Second Progressive Age may bring.  Recall, this is the long 18 year cycle of Rahu, the head-of-the-dragon eclipse point -- 2015 through 2033.

First, below is a table of the U.S. planetary cycles, which total for all the planets 120 years -- what the Hindus believe to be the natural life span.  For countries and other organizations, however, the life can be much longer, in which case the planetary cycles sequence repeats.  You can see in the below table the country has already experienced two full sets of cycles -- each beginning with Rahu.   The U.S, is now in the first planet of the third set, repeating by again beginning with Rahu.

The table lists the planets, then the years planetary cycle begins.

Second, bearing in mind that history repeats, but not exactly, the December 12, 2004 The United States Through Its Planetary Cycles Part II 1896 to Present explained Rahu's second cycle -- the First Progressive Age.  That is the historical comparison we seek now to understand the Second Progressive Age.  (That entry also referenced Rahu's first cycle -- when the country was born.  If you want to learn more about America's birth during Rahu's first cycle, go to The United States Through Its Planetary Cycles 1776 to 1895.)

Rahu's second planetary cycle begins the second set of America's planetary cycles.  Rahu's behavior  was interpreted in its first cycle from 1776 through 1893.  This second cycle repeats the energies, though, of course, not the same events.

As the nation created itself via a freeing democracy and capitalism during the first Rahu cycle, it recreated itself during its second cycle, known as the Progressive Era.  Reacting to the robber barons' abuse of power, government corruption, class warfare protests and the continuing depression, William McKinley won the tumultuous 1896 election by assembling a coalition of new industrialists and their workers, promising a full dinner pail and rejecting moralistic crusades of earlier Republicans.  (Note: Except for Democrat Grover Cleveland, who was as reactionary as Republicans, McKinley's election ended the conservative Republican's twenty-eight year reign of greed and corruption that began with Ulysses S. Grant in 1869.)

Progressives were a post Civil War generation.  Raised in cities with the new social and physical sciences (including Darwinism) and mass media, they did not share their parents' Victorian-inspired religious fervor.  Progressive modernists were inclined to reject institutionalized restrictions and to support individual freedoms.

Progressivism revitalized democracy by redressing Gilded Age excesses and political corruption.  This was basically class warfare, similar to the first Rahu cycle's revolutionary's fight against the English colonial class system.  (Unfortunately, with Jim Crow laws having formalized restrictions against Blacks, redress here would not occur until much later in the nation's history.)  The Progressive Movement increased federal power and ended Laissez Faire's absence of regulation.

Teddy Roosevelt began enforcing the Sherman anti-trust act for its true purpose, earning him the nickname, Trust-buster.  Roosevelt also pushed through legislation requiring pure food and drugs, railroad rate regulations and the conservation of natural resources.

In his 1903 Square Deal speech, Roosevelt concluded by saying, The welfare of each of us is dependent fundamentally upon the welfare of all of usThe second Progressive era presidency, William Taft was less effective than Roosevelt but continued to break up trusts and empower the court system.

The Progressive Movements' regaining democratic freedoms and equality lost during the Gilded Age is the second example of how, Imbalances and inequality among groups stimulate conflicts to reintegrate the culture along shared democratic values.

There is another thread to this Rahu cycle, relating to its signification for foreigners.  Early in the cycle, America was thrust into following the Europeans' colonial expansion by the short 1898 Spanish/American war.  During William McKinley's term from 1897 to 1901, America developed an innovative approach to compete with the Europeans and to gain needed international trade.  As a democracy, America was a reluctant colonial master.  The Rahu cycle's emphasis was not on building an empire but upon expanding trade through the concept of spheres of influence, an expansion abroad of Manifest Destiny.  This required control only of scattered territories in the Caribbean and Pacific. These are listed above.  The Open Door Policy was an attempt to keep the China trade open, in part by denying imperial Europeans the change to carve up the giant.

As Rahu is science, it is natural that Einstein's Theory of Relatively came during its cycle.  The Wright Brothers first flight in 1903 also fits this cycle, for Rahu is specifically airplanes.

(Rahu's next cycle will run from 2016 to 2033...)
