December 29

On December 22, Indian researchers at the Department of Applied Geology, University of Madras published a report predicting an earthquake on December 26 at 00:30 AM GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) in Sumatra, Indonesia, magnitude 6 to 7.  The actual quake was 28 minutes earlier, 157 kilometers away from the predicted epicenter and magnitude 9.  An article in NewsTodaynet.com, Some knew it was coming, states, the prediction was based on a novel method developed by the team. According to the method, when two or more planets, Sun and the Moon get aligned more or less in line (0 to 180 degree) with the earth it could affect the angular momentum of the earth and decrease the speed of rotation of the earth which could trigger an earthquake.

Recall in the December 24 Celestial Wheel I pointed out Christmas morning viewing the stellium of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter & Saturn.  I don't know specifically how this stellium relates to the Indians' prediction, but it cannot be coincidental.  The Indians' prediction also gives credence to the concept that the solar's system's geometry influences the earth, even though the planets' gravitational forces are miniscule.  Perhaps there are other forces not yet understood by planetary physicists but known the ancient Indian astrologers who were also accomplished astronomers.

There are major movements in the big and slow planets this winter  -- Jupiter and Saturn, as well as the karmically potent but mysterious Moon's Nodes (Rahu and Ketu).  I decided in my sleep last night to apply these changes to forecasting the next few months, when Bush launches his second administration while immediately facing failure in Iraq and resistance at home. This is the same approach as last March's The Times They Are A Changin, which recited several astronomical events that shook up the world last spring.  Because I've assembled personal charts for Bush et al and nations' charts (U.S., Iraq, Iran, Israel and Saudi Arabia), upcoming forecasting will be more specific.

Currently, there's a rather odd situation with regard to Venus and Mercury.  Venus conjoined Mercury in Scorpio at Christmas, and they continue in tandem until about January 20, when Mercury finally begins to pull away from Venus in Sagittarius.  When planets are close together, within a degree, they compete for each other's energy, called planetary war.  For these two benefics, there's no great damaging effect, especially in this case, when they aren't overly oppressed by the malefic planets.  Venus's creativity and sensitivity with Mercury's light and variable intellect and communications stimulates for charm, fun, creativity and playfulness.  However, the mind is not serious enough, its difficult to plan ahead and people dodge duty and responsibility.

These significations explain why we are shying away from dealing with the tough political and economic issues facing us, as well as moving ahead in our personal lives   However, avoidance does not resolve anything.  The suggestion is to write down issues for the coming new year and literally force yourself to work at them with creative dutifulness.  Also, for those of you who have not yet read through the December 12 in-depth Forecast, The United States Through Its Planetary Cycles, please do so.  You'll find this analysis entertaining, and your own creative Venus/Mercury will be stimulated, perhaps even to amazement.  Too, I look forward to your comments on that Forecast to guide further forecasting.

BuyBlue.org announced it is reorganizing its blue list applying parameters beyond political contributions.  This is a natural evolution in the effort to lead the emerging consumer boycott.  In the meantime use ChooseTheBlue.com for post Christmas purchasing.  (It does appear that my prediction for bargains after Christmas was correct.)   On December 25, I placed blog entry on BuyBlue.org in the December 23 essay, Taking Back Blue,

Following the November 2 election, I did an in-depth historical review of America's cycles. The result was finding the U.S. is repeating now (1999 - 2008) the same cycle that ran during the Gilded age (1879 - 1888). Recall this was the period of business excess and government corruption which was not redressed until two cycles later -- with the commencement of the Progressive Era under Teddy Roosevelt.

This second Gilded Age of a power elite dominating the masses is the reason election forecasts were wrong. Yet, we are not the uneducated populace of the 1800's, and Buy Blue is an effective vehicle to jumpstart our return to liberty.

December 24

Merry Christmas to everyone.  Although the planetary dispositions have improved, many are having quiet holiday seasons for their feeling beleaguered.  I've been promoting Buy Blue, since a good way to combat upset and depression is to fire back with some wholesome and positively productive anger.  Raven Brooks, President of BuyBlue.org was interviewed for today's CNN's Inside Politics.  However, the segment didn't air.  Look for this interview in coming days.

I placed Buy Blue  on the home page of my website to encourage participation in this effective consumer boycott.  (It's fun to choose blue stores, encourage locally owned stores and tell red store man- agers they are being boycotted.)  Although America's new Gilded Age under its Moon cycle isn't due to end until November 2008, the are countervailing influences we can grab hold onto to reverse the nation's course -- back to, reintegration along shared democratic values.

Subscriber S.J from California observed yesterday, There is an odd feel to the presidency right now; I can't put my finger on it.  I agreed but cautiously replied, I need to get focused on the first Gilded Age  - what the Presidents did, the Haymarket Square labor riot.....  to find further detail on the Moon cycle -- before I do another prediction.  Also, as mentioned in the December 16 Celestial Wheel, G.W. Bush is running some Ketu in his planetary cycles, which is negative for his big plans in general and government specifically.  This cycle began December 6 and continues until January 29.  Bush has certainly had some setbacks since early December, and it's quite possible that his excess of desire and confidence will backfire in January.  Then, he launches his legislative program, attempts to force-feed judicial appointments, faces election results challenges and deals with the unfolding Iraq disaster.

Vedic Astrologer David Hawthorne offered today this provocative quote from John Adams, Power always thinks it has a great soul and vast views beyond the comprehension of the weak; and that it is doing God's service when it is violating all his laws.  Some truths are indeed timeless.  David has a weekly e-mail column on the planetary placements.  Contact him at david@astroview.com for a compli-mentary subscription.

Remember, there's a full Moon coming up on Sunday, bathing this entire holiday weekend's evenings in a warm lunar glow.  Of further astronomical interest, NASA reports that five planets will be visible at dawn for a week beginning Christmas Day morning.  These are:  Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter & Saturn.  So, if you're up early peeking at holiday gifts or are awakened early by a nocturnal cat (like me), take a look at the dawning eastern sky.  The eternal quality of the heavens reminds us that everything earthly is transitory -- No tree grows to the sky, even in Texas.

December 22

There's an apparent contretemps in the Iraq insurgency having advanced a disruptive civil war and the media unanimously reporting nationwide efforts will result in a effective election January 30, 2005.

In June, 2004 I published an in-depth five part Forecast series entitled, The Timeless Mideast Bottleneck -- Ancient Karmas.  Part 5 discussed Iraq.  Here's the link for you to revisit that analysis, http://www .vedicpredictiveastrology.com/forecasts/Forecast_Archives_53_Iraq_&_Forecast_Conclusions.htm

Below is a long excerpt from that interpretation, giving you the essential planetary karmas for the new June 28, 2004 government.  The chart graphic follows.  Note that this chart signifies both Iraq's rebirth and its governing entity.  This chart was born under the very difficult Rahu/Ketu planetary cycle/subcycle, which drives the interpretation in its push/pull effect.

...the Sun, another indicator of government, is constrained by a very difficult Saturn in the eleventh house of friends. The U.S. is that distrusted and controlling friend,   This suggests the government cannot express itself freely.  As Saturn rules the sixth house of enemies and the seventh house of partnerships, the U.S. partner is truly an enemy, or at least Iraq is suspicious of the U.S.  Of course, the insurgents are Iraq's other enemies.

Mercury with Saturn is interesting, for this signifies Saturnian focus against enem- ies, but also deception by them.  The Iraq government must be totally absorbed in how to deal with the twin problems of a controlling and deceptive U.S. and a deceptive violent insurgency.  Saturn also brings tough response to threats from the insurgency, which accounts for the government's intent to impose marital law. The perceptional Moon here is badly injured by being so closely conjunct Ketu and being aspected by Mars in the desirous third house. There is an unstable and charged up mind, which will act in strange, even deranged ways.

With Ketu being gas and oil, look for government policies and actions in that area to be often irrational. As the third house is close associates, there's a strong influence for officials within the government to act for personal gain from the oil through trick-ery or fraud.

Two more planetary disposition is are of concern. Rahu in the ninth house of religion, philosophy and wealth influences for bizarre philosophies and also greed. Mars, which rules the ninth house of philosophy and wealth and the fourth house of the home, is terribly placed in its fallen sign in the twelfth house of loss. This means Mars-inspired violent philosophies are intended to gain wealth but only bring the poverty of loss and cost the home to be lost.

Looking ahead the next few months, it seems predestined that the early Jupiter/Venus optimism and hope will be dashed.  The planetary cycles at birth of Rahu/Ketu/Saturn/Mercury can only bring the destructive effects discussed above for these planets.

On October 8, 2004 Iraq changed cycles from Rahu/Ketu to Rahu/Venus. Rahu continues its bizarre and greedy violence bringning loss. Venus, however, is very well placed, stimulating a heart-driven love for the country from the depths of its rich past and fulfillment of its dreams.

This Venus subcycle is the reason the Interim Government and the general populace are so devot- ed to the January 30 election and hopeful for a positive outcome.  However, this same mindset influences the insurgents, who believe their violent efforts will also be successful in restoring Iraq.

The U.S. is caught the middle between these opposing forces as the distrusted and controlling enemy/friend.

December 21

This morning I sent the following to BuyBlue.org and ChooseTheBlue.com

Time Magazine's anointing G.W. Bush as Man Of The Year is one-sided journ-alism, of course.  Time totally ignores the many horrors Bush has visited upon America and the world, including prisoner abuse.

But, there is much more to the neoconservative/fundamentalist movement than just Bush  -- it's a historical tide, a return of the Gilded Age.  Perhaps looking at this wider perspective will be helpful to you folks in framing your advocacy.   I suggest an additional category to your website  - red list of politically unsavory companies.

I'll be buying some books for Christmas gifts at Bookman's in Flagstaff.  Amazaon.com has been identified as a red company, and I'm not sure about the intentions of Borders and other large book retailers.  The point here is to choose locally owned stores when possible.  Then, you avoid inadvertently buying from a big corporation that may not be blue.  Also, of course, buying from local businesses supports your community.

Returning to the Gilded Age issue discussed in the Forecast, The United States Through Its Planetary Cycles, I had a provocative discussion a few weeks ago a client wheelchair-bound from an accident several years ago.  She's from a military family and lives an upper-class life in the Northeast.  A year ago, she was miffed at me for criticizing the neoconservatives -- understandable with her background.  In our recent discussion, however, she worried about Bush's craziness, stating the he was unlike other recent presidents, who she felt were generally harmless -- benign was her word.   That is, she had begun to fear the neoconservatives for, among other things, their dismantling of programs safeguarding the public.  Two nights ago I saw a news item describing how the Federal Government is eliminating enforcement of laws protecting the disabled, primarily the 1990 ADA -- American Disability Act.  I don't know if she knows about this, that her life will inevitably become more restricted as ADA requirements are obviated.  The message, of course, is that all our lives are becoming impoverished, not enriched in this new Gilded Age.

A related topic is respected journalist Bill Moyer's recent article in TomPaine.com, The Delusional Is No Longer Marginal.  Moyers describes how the Fundamentalists work against environmental concerns in the craziness of their beliefs in the Second Coming.  This dovetails with the historical review in the Forecast, The United States Through Its Planetary Cycles.  Recall I tracked the evangelical movement from the earliest days of the Republic to its resurrection in contemporary times.  To do this, I shifted through bland histories of America, and although I found the basic tenants of evangelicalism, I was not able to zero in on the environmental issue as Bill Moyers did.  Read the article -- it's true.

Finally, as discussed in the December 19 Celestial Wheel, I've posted The United States Through Its Planetary Cycles on my website as a Sample Forecast to serve the public.  To facilitate your access to this information, and also promote your forwarding it to everyone you know, here's the link,

December 20

Mercury is thankfully again in forward motion.  Since I'm running my Mercury planetary cycle, I can feel it.  Let me know if my prediction for holiday gift bargains (starting today) occurs in your part of the world.  Check out BuyBlue.org and ChooseTheBlue.com for companies supporting shared democratic values.

I understand reading the United States Through Its Planetary Cycles Forecast is challenging for Mercury retrograde and the busyness of the holiday season.  Printing out both Parts I and II facilitates this fascinating read.  As the described planetary karmas are foundational, like the initial wash on a watercolor painting, they can be applied to understanding many events and trends in the world.  In this regard, I'm promoting the Forecast's revealing we are now immersed in the second Gilded Age.  This morning, I submitted the following Letter to the Editor to the Washington Post,

Dear Editor,

Time Magazine's awarding "G.W. Bush Man Of The Year" should, to be truth-ful, praise his bringing America a new Gilded Age.  Bush is taking the nation back to the 1880s mix of laissez faire capitalism and austere Victorianism that allowed a rapacious elite to ride roughshod over the masses.  It wasn't until 1901 that rough-rider Teddy Roosevelt issued in the Progressive Era that these inequalities began to be redressed.

December 19

Tomorrow, Mercury resumes forward motion early in the day about dawn.  Vehicle and financial conundrums will end, and shopping bargains will begin. The Moon will be with Rahu, however, suggesting care to avoid impulse.

Web sites are organic in nature.  This past week I updated VedicPredictiveAstrology.com.  Take a look.  A statement of purpose is added to the home page.  I don't know of any other Vedic Astrologer using this unique craft to promote societal welfare.  The other three main pages are reorganized.  I did also include the U.S. chart analysis to the Forecast samples to best serve the larger public interest.  (Note: on some pages, the password box may pop up, and I've asked my webmaster to fix this Mercury retrograde glitch.)

I discussed voting with our pocketbooks in the December 16 Celestial Wheel.  Today's Washington Post's article, Some Put Their Money Where Their Politics Are, advances this effective grass roots technique in publicizing two web sites listing blue and red companies.  Here's the article's lead-in,

Raven Brooks is making his Christmas list, but he is less concerned with what to buy than where to shop.

Brooks is one of a small group of frustrated Democrats who met while commis-erating online after President Bush defeated Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.). Disenchanted and desperate for a voice, they started BuyBlue.org. The two-week-old Web site lists the political contributions of major companies to encourage people to shop at stores and buy products from businesses that supported Democratic candidates.

Both BuyBlue.org and ChooseTheBlue.com use data from The Center for Responsive Politics, the firm that provided the listing cited in the December 16 Celestial Wheel.  BuyBlue.org is more comprehensive and interactive as well.

Although the Washington Post qualifies its support by stating, It is historically difficult to get consumer campaigns and boycotts off the ground, this ignores previous efforts that were successful.  Recall the California vegetable boycott that improved treatment of migrant workers.  Also, buying environmentally friendly products is well established, and we've seen how conscious buying doesn't just reduce revenues for companies harming the environment.  This also supports businesses that improve the environment and enhance our lives personally.  The combination of actual economic impact and publicity can be potent -- but only if we apply the concept of spiritual citizenship.

Also, consider The United States Through Its Planetary Cycles Forecast showed the nation's current ten year Moon cycle repeats the Moon's first cycle's Gilded Age of the 1880's.  This means the power base is again commerce, making the business elite vulnerable to financial pressures.  Further, that Forecast stated, The imperial American posture of the neoconservatives is thereby diametrically opposed to this irresistible globalization process and therefore must fail. A push from the public must advance that process.  We're not alone, either.  Last, with the internet an emerging mass conscious- ness, the public is tremendously empowered compared with the powerless masses of the nineteenth century.

December 16

The Sun and Mars are both transiting signs -- moving from one sign into another.  As these planets symbolize physical energy, power, courage and the like, activities can be dicey until these Pitta (fiery) planets have moved into their new positions.  Mars' brothers and the Sun's father significations can be the most sensitive.  By December 20, when also Mercury will return to forward motion, the energetics will have settled down. Again, I believe we can enjoy a pleasant holiday season.

While the media continues to generally indicate flat retail sales, reports have noted that high-end stores are doing well, which should be no surprise given America's second Gilded Age.  They also report Walmart sales as disappointing.  This relates to both the greater public's economic stress and consumer rebellion against Walmart.  The point is that we can indeed vote effectively with our pocketbooks to combat the power elite.  Their power rests in both the religious right and most big corporations.  While we can't easily influence the former, we can take the wind out of those abusive corporations by shopping elsewhere.  I've copied below an e-mail from Subscriber D.F. in California entitled Shop Your Vote.  It's a useful shopping guide. The Gandhi quote at the end is true.

In yesterday's Celestial Wheel, I wrote about the scandals of Iraq and the 2004 election being prominent issues.  (There are further problems with the weakening dollar and interest rates moving higher.)  Since Bush is now pushing hard his agenda of litigation limits, privatizing social security and further tax changes favoring business and the wealthy, these next few months can be pivotal in stopping the neoconservatives.  That is, the Iraq and election scandals, monetary problems and our voting with our wallets can put enough pressure on Congress to resist the power elite.  After all, there will be midterm Congressional elections in less than two years, and these folks want to be reelected.

The astrological reasoning behind my advocating reactivating your public interest and action relates to both Bush and the U.S. chart running Ketu in their cycles now.  Further, the U.S. chart is also running eighth house (turmoil) Moon and Mercury cycles. Recall that Ketu stimulates Counter-Culture.   Further, sign positions of the Sun and Mars these next few months can be negative for Bush and government significations in the U.S. chart but positive for public protest.
